Monthly Salary and Yearly Bonuses
- The monthly salary is based on visa status:
- \250,000/month: Working Visa and Spousal/Heritage Visa holders.
- \215,000/month: Working Holiday Visa holders.
- Salaries are paid out on the 25th day of each month for work done in the prior month (for example, teachers who start work in January will not receive their first paycheck until February 25th). Therefore, we ask that everyone start training with at least \200,000 (about $2500 CAN or $2500 AUS) to get through the first 7-weeks in Japan until the first paycheck.
- Performance Bonus: Up to \130,000 per year-long, contract based on performance
- Unfortunately, we do not cover international airfare.
- Our teachers receive the following Holidays off:
- A minimum of 7 company holidays that are set annually in our work calendar
- A minimum of 5 flexible vacation days (teachers are eligible for these days after 6-months of consecutive employment)
- 115 Regular days off per year (includes 2 days off per week in principle & national holidays)
Commuting and Health Insurance Reimbursement
- All work related commuting is reimbursed on the 25th day of the following month
- All employees must obtain comprehensive health insurance during their employment term (non-Japanese nationals may elect to join AIU travelers insurance offered through the company after arriving in Japan teachers wising to join AIU should bring a minimum of 2 weeks of travel health insurance with them to Japan).
- We reimburse one-half of the cost of health insurance premiums up to \40,000 for coverage for a full work term. This reimbursement will be added to the first paycheck after a receipt for coverage has been submitted.
- Income tax is deducted from the monthly pay and the tax rate is as follows:
- Approximately 5%-8% for Working Visa and Spousal/Heritage Visa teachers provided you reside in Japan for over a year.
- Approximately 20% for Working Holiday Visa teachers (Australian Working Holiday Visa holders may be subject to the lower tax rate provided you reside in Japan for over a year).
- Employment Insurance is deducted from all foreign staff members not on the Working Holiday visa. This is effective from January 1, 2005. Deductions are calculated at (7/1000 X Gross Yearly Income). An approximate monthly premium is \2500-3000.
